850 km of splendid beaches bathed by the Atlantic Ocean

In Portugal, there are beaches in the Algarve, south of the country, known for their warm temperatures, crystal clear waters, soft sand, beautiful cliffs and rock formations.

Some of the most emblematic beaches are found in the Algarve, in an area known as Costa de Oro, derived from the yellow / gold color of the rocks that surround this beach. It is protected from the wind and has calm and clean water. It is located between rocky cliffs and is a good place to practice diving to observe both fauna and marine flora. Inside the water, with diving goggles and fins, you discover a different color: seaweed, starfish, sea urchins, shrimp or small fish banks populate the immersed rocky blocks. And from the small viewpoint that is reached at the access to the beach you can see the curious carbonated rock formations sculpted by the sweet and salty waters: ravines, caves, remains of grottos and caves.

But the Portuguese coast has 943 km in continental Portugal, 667 in the Azores and 250 in Madeira. A lot to choose from, whether in Cascais, 30 km from the capital Lisbon, whether in Puerto Santo (Madeira Island), or in Nazaré – known worldwide for its giant waves for surfers – all these beaches are being revealed to the whole world, to each passing day.

Saws and natural parks of exuberant beauty

In a small territory, Portugal concentrates landscapes and so varied species, that make of any trip, however small, a pleasure of discovery.
From the imposing mountains to the vast plains, to the shortened coast bathed by the impetuous ocean, the country has a bit of everything.
Before Sintra there was no Cultural Landscape category, since it was created by UNESCO to distinguish a mountain range and a natural park of exuberant beauty, dotted with palaces and villas full of history and culture.
And there are still the islands of Madeira and the Azores, an oasis of calm and tranquility in the middle of the Atlantic, with exuberant vegetation, extinct volcanoes and caves full of natural sculptures.
